Afford clocks up – or rocks up – 70 years with a big virtual anniversary bash.
Melbourne and Sydney Disability Connection Expos 2022 major sponsor Afford went back to the 1950s and rocked and jived its way through a big virtual 70th anniversary celebration recently.
NDIS service provider and Afford has certainly “rocked around the clock”, chalking up seven decades in the disability provider sector.
Afford, which is one of Australia’s longest-serving disability service providers, is dedicated to helping people with disability to shape their own lives.
The business started in 1951 – when Nat King Cole had the hit of the year with Too Young – as The Poliomyelitis Society of Australia, at the height of the world’s devastating polio epidemic.
So it was only fitting that this 2021 Australiasian Reporting Awards silver medallist headed back to the ’50s for the Afford’s Got Talent-themed virtual party late last week!
Hosted by Australian singer/songwriter Tanya George, the virtual event was a huge hit with participants from throughout Australia taking part, singing, and dancing with songs predominantly from throughout the 1950s.
From Banana Boat, Rock Around the Clock, and Jailhouse Rock to Guess the Song and trivia games, thanks to Tanya, participants and Afford workers had a rockin’ good time.
Tayna praised the response of the virtual crowd and the courage shown by the acts during the two-hour show.
